In a surprise announcement on Tuesday, the Carrier Air Condition Company reversed course and is now planning to stay in America. In February of this year Carrier told it’s employees that it was moving it’s operations to Monterrey, Mexico and would be laying them off.

The announcement unwittingly inserted Carrier into the 2016 presidential race when one of the employees recorded the bad news on his phone. The video of the announcement quickly went viral and was noticed by the Trump team.

Shortly after it hit the Internet candidate Trump began mentioning the video at his massive rallies. Trump’s message of keeping manufacturing jobs in the United States was a signature economic issue of the Trump campaign. He explained to his crowds that the plan to fire thousands of employees was just the latest example of corporate outsourcing. Trump’s very public rebuke of Carrier was well received by the thousands that attended his rallies and ultimately by voters in America’s Rust Belt states.

After meeting with the Trump team over the last few days Carrier now says it will be staying put.  In a statement on Twitter the company said ” We are pleased to have reached a deal with President-elect Trump & VP-elect Pence to keep close to 1,000 jobs in Indy. ”

President-Elect Trump tweeted that he will travel to Indiana on Thursday to announce that Carrier is staying put.
