Newark Accident Leaves Two In Critical

 

Newark – On Tuesday, February 21, 2017, the New Castle County Paramedics, Christiana Fire Company and Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company of Newark were dispatched around 1:50 p.m. to the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Robert L. Melson Lane for a motor vehicle crash, according to New Castle County Paeamedics Spokeswoman Yvonne T. Russell. Russell said that the initial reports to the 911 center indicated more than one victim was trapped in their vehicle.

NCC-PARAMEDICCounty Paramedics arrived to find two patients trapped in separate vehicles, Russell said. The first patient, a 25-year-old man, was extricated by rescue personnel from the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company and Christiana Fire Company before being transported with County Paramedics on an Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company ambulance to the Christiana Hospital, according to Russell.

The first patient sustained head injuries and injuries to both legs.

The second patient, a 53-year-old male, was also found trapped in his vehicle which had come to rest down an embankment. The patient was extricated by rescue personnel from the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company and Christiana Fire Company.

The patient, who sustained injuries to his chest, abdomen and both legs, was treated at the scene by County Paramedics before being flown to Christiana Hospital via Delaware State Police helicopter.

Both patients were in critical condition at the time of transport.

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
