Police: Lewes Man Arrested For Third DUI

Rehoboth Beach – On Monday evening.  January 30, 2017. at around 9:15 p.m., a Rehoboth Beach police officer on patrol observed Leonard F. Stielper, 45, of Lewes, who was operating a black 2014 Chrysler Sebring, make an illegal turn from State Road through a median crossover for opposing traffic onto Rehoboth Avenue, according to Rehoboth Beach police.

Leonard F. Stielper, 45, of Lewes, Del. was arrested for a third offense charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, a felony, after being stopped by Rehoboth Beach Police for committing a traffic violation.

Authorities said that then the officer attempted to stop Stielper, he initially came to a stop in the middle of the roadway before finally pulling into a parking lot along Rehoboth Avenue Extend.

Officials said that when the officer initially contacting Stielper, he observed that Stielper’s speech was slurred and that he showed signs of impairment. Stielper was administered standardized field sobriety test during which he showed additional signs of impairment, according to officials. Stielper was taken into custody and transported to the Rehoboth Beach Police Department where further blood alcohol testing was conducted.

Stielper was arrested and charged with 1 count of felony third offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, 1 count of failure to obey a traffic control device, 1 count of failure to drive in the proper lane and direction, and 1 count of failure to have insurance identification in possession.
Stielper was commited to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $3650.00 secured bail.
