Bear House Fire Sends Four To Hospital, Two In Critical

Bear – The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a house fire that injured four people early this morning in Bear, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze was reported shortly after 3:00 am in the 400 block of Feather Drive in the Wellington Woods neighborhood. The Christiana Fire Company arrived on the scene with smoke pouring from the dwelling, said Chionchio.

Four occupants, ages 13, 18, 25, and 44 were transported to the Christiana Hospital’s Emergency Room suffering from smoke inhalation, according to Chionchio. The 18-year-old and 25-year-old were transferred to the Crozer Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania and admitted in critical condition. The 13-year-old and 44-year-old were treated and released from the Christiana Hospital.

Chionchio said heavy fire damage was estimated at $20,000. Smoke alarms were present and sounded throughout the home. This fire remains under investigation.

State fire investigators are on the scene conducting the investigation into the fire’s origin and cause.
