Happening Now: Serious Crash Shuts Route 13 Down, One Trapped

Bear – Just before 4:00 p.m. this afternoon fire crews from Delaware City, Christiana Fire Company, along with New Castle County Paramedics and Delaware State Police Troopers responded to the intersection of Route 13 and Red Lion Road for a crash involving a person trapped.

Arriving crews found two vehicles with high impact damage with one patient trapped in their vehicle. Rescue crews worked for more than 30 minutes to remove the patient. As crews were extricating the patient from the vehicle Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) was notified that they would be utilized for transport.

Fire police quickly blocked all lanes of travel on Route 13 to allow Trooper 4 to land on the roadway near the accident. As the patient was removed from the vehicle they were rushed to the awaiting helicopter and transported to Christina Hospital with undetermined injuries.
