Attempted Frog Theft Lands Two In Custody

Newark – On July 16, 2017 at 2:27 am Newark Police Department arrested Matthew Coburn and Tyler Matthews, both 22, of Smyrna, after an officer on routine patrol observed both subjects attempting to remove a frog statue from the sidewalk in front of the Shoppes at Louviers, 665 Paper Mill Road, according to Newark Police Spokesman Lt. Fred Nelson.

Nelson said the officer initially noticed a vehicle parked on the sidewalk at the shopping center and went to investigate. The officer then discovered Coburn and Matthews attempting to place the frog statue, valued at approximately $1,000, into the trunk of their vehicle, according to Nelson.

Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Newark Police Department. They were both video arraigned in front of Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $1,000 unsecured bond. Both were charged with Theft Under $1500 and Conspiracy 3rd Degree.
