Newark – Rumors about a new Fairfield Shopping Center grocery store are swirling around again.
In mid-February one of the businesses located in the Fairfield Shopping Center reportedly called Della Donne, the property management company, to inquire about the fate of the shopping center, according to social media reports.
The post said that the business was told that a grocery store will be replacing the Super Fresh and that an announcement was set for the end of the month. Well the announcement never came?
Residents were hoping for the likes of a Trader Joes, a Zingo’s or an Aldi to fill the old Super Fresh location. However the rumor back then was that a Food Lion was in works. That was according to several merchants in the strip mall. One merchant added that she thinks that the new grocery store will be larger than the Super Fresh footprint. Another merchant said that he heard that the old PNC is to reopen as a Dunkin Donuts.
In recent months employees at the strip mall reported seeing people looking at the building and others making repairs. New rumors of an imminent lease signing were once again in the air. But it wasn’t to be.
That could all be changing. A local report indicates that Della Donne may have reached an agreement with an anchor store for the strip mall. While the hope is that a new grocery store will fill the space, the report indicates that Della Donne is keeping quite due to a confidentiality agreement.
When Super Fresh closed it’s doors in late 2015 residents that live near the Fairfield Shopping Center found themselves without a neighborhood grocery store. They will likely be very happy if the rumors are true.
