Local Business Owners Pitch In To Host Children At Blue Rocks Baseball Game

Wilmington – Two local business owners, one of whom is a former Wilmington police officer, have teamed up with the City to host one hundred children and their family members at the Blue Rocks baseball game this Sunday. Mayor Mike Purzycki today thanked local McDonald’s Owner/Operator and President of the Philadelphia Black McDonald’s Operator Association Kenneth Youngblood, and former city police officer Alfred “Izzy” Izquierdo, who is President of International Security, for providing Sunday’s family outing at Frawley Stadium.

Youngblood and Izquierdo said they want to be positive role models for city youth and are seeking opportunities such as Sunday’s ball game to bring families together. “It is critical for everyone to take an active role in providing programs and events for the kids in our city, particularly business owners” said Izquierdo. “I am extremely optimistic and hope this will be a catalyst for many more adventures to come. Baseball is a great venue to bring all of us together, because everyone loves baseball.”

Youngblood, owner of four McDonald’s franchises in the greater Wilmington area and two within the city limits, said he purchased the city franchises because he wants to be part of the positive direction the city is taking for the future. “McDonald’s takes great pride in supporting the community members of Wilmington and the Greater Philadelphia Region. We’re excited to be a part of this effort to give back and strengthen our community.”

The children and family members who will attend Sunday’s game signed-up for tickets at the City’s Williams Hicks Anderson Community Center, the PAL on Market and the Fraim Boys and Girls Club.

“It’s great to have people like Kenneth and Izzy on our team as we focus on the needs of our young people and strengthen city neighborhoods,” said Mayor Purzycki. “If everyone in our city found a way to join us in this effort, no matter how seemingly small a gesture or action it may be, we can change our children’s perspective on life, their surroundings and their future.”

“Wilmington Blue Rocks is excited to entertain the children for the afternoon,” said Kevin Linton, Director of Community Affairs for the Blue Rocks. “The Blue Rocks organization is all about excitement and entertainment for the entire family at the stadium.” The Blue Rocks will play the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday.
