Wilmington – At approximately 1:45 pm this afternoon, New Castle County Paramedics, Brandywine Hundred and Claymont Fire Companies were dispatched to the area of Carr Road and Marsh Road for a motor vehicle crash into a creek, according to Paramedic First Class Yvonne Russell.
Russell said upon arrival New Castle County Paramedics found a single vehicle into a creek with the patient confined to his vehicle. The patient, a 79-year-old Wilmington man, suffered head injuries. Personnel from Brandywine Hundred and Claymont Fire Companies along with HACSAR (High Angle Confined Space and Rescue) Team rescued the patient from his vehicle after 25 minutes.
The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital via Brandywine Hundred Fire Company ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in serious condition at the time of transport.
The incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. Saturday August 12, 2017 the man was operating a 2015 Ford F150 pickup truck southbound on Carr Road from Marsh Road, according to State Police Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.
Fournier said for undetermined reasons, the truck collided with a guardrail face with its front right bumper and then veered to its left, crossing over a concrete median into the northbound lanes, where it went through the guardrail on the opposite side. The truck then came to a stop nose down in a vertical position above Shellpot Creek.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no charges have been filed. The roadway was closed for three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Update: The male driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
Update: At 2:16 the patient was extracted from the vehicle.
Update: Driver left the roadway, smashing through a guard rail, down an embankment, before coming to rest inches away from a nearby stream.
Claymont – Rescue crews from Claymont Fire Company are currently on scene at I-95 and Carr Road for reports of a car off the roadway, in the woods, with occupants trapped in the vehicle.
At 2 pm command is reporting that crews have made entry into the vehicle.
Trooper 4 is on the ground waiting for occupants to be extricated.
