Two Prisoners Attempt To Escape Gander Hill Prison, Able To Gain Access To The Roof

Wilmington – The Delaware Department of Correction tells First State Update that late Sunday evening, October 8, 2017, two offenders from the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution (aka Gander Hill Prison) in Wilmington attempted to escape custody, according to the Department of Corrections Public Information Officer, Kate Weber.

Weber said both offenders were able to access the roof of the facility after breaching the recreation yard security canopy. Once on the roof, one offender turned back while the other was discovered by outside patrol, according to Weber.

Both offenders are being treated for injuries sustained during the escape attempt. An investigation is ongoing into this matter and the offenders will be charged with attempted escape.
