Claymont – The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s building fire in Claymont, Delaware, according to Michael G. Chionchio, Assistant State Fire Marshal.
Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly after 7:00 am, occurred in the 1200 block of Melontree Court in the Stoneybrook Apartment complex near Naamans Road. The Claymont Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames on the exterior of the two story row of townhouses.
State fire investigators were called to the scene and are currently searching for the fire’s origin and cause. This fire remains under investigation.
Heavy fire damage is estimated at $250,000. Eighteen people have been displaced. Eight adults and ten children. The American Red Cross and the apartment management are providing emergency assistance to those displaced. There were no reported injuries.

Claymont – At around 7:20 this morning Crews from both northen New Castle County and Delaware County, Pennsylvania responded to the 1000 block of Melontree Court for reports of an apartment building on fire.
Upon arrival crews reported seeing heavy fire shooting from the roof.
According to reports, both the primary and secondary searches for occupants inside, where negative.
Reports from the scene indicate that the fire has spread between two apartment buildings.
Crews remain on scene battling the blaze.
Early reports indicate that 8 adults and 10 children were displaced by the fire.
