Police Say Wilmington Gunfire That Hit Gas Line, Man Was Self-Inflicted

Wilmington – After more than a 12-week investigation into the March 3, 2018 shooting, that occurred in the 800 block of N. Pine Street, Wilmington Police have determined the cause of the shooting.

Police say that the victim suffered a self-inflicted gunshot to his leg. Police have ruled the shooting accidental.

It’s unclear if the 22-year-old will face any charges.

Wilmington – On Saturday, 03 March 2018, at approximately 11:26 pm, Wilmington Police were summoned to the 800 block of N. Pine Street for a report of ‘shots fired’, according to police.

Officials said upon the officers arrival, they discovered that a gas pipe, located in the block may have been struck by gunfire. Firefighters were dispatched and responded to scene where the gas leak was brought under control.

Officers learned that a victim from the shooting arrived at the St. Francis Hospital by private vehicle. The 22-year-old male victim sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and is in stable condition, according to officials.
