Reports: Officials Lockdown Gallaher Elementary After Threat, Polling Place Closed

Newark – For over an hour this morning some voters, participating in today’s Christana School Board Election, were told that the Robert S. Gallaher Elementary School was unavailable as a polling place. The information was posted to the Department of Elections Facebook page.

“Gallaher Elementary School is currently unavailable as a polling place for the Christina School Board Election – folks can go to Jones Elementary, Christiana High School, Marshall Elementary or any other locations on this list -https://electionsncc.delaware.gov/Christina/cs_mbr.shtm”

Delaware State Troopers responded to the school reportedly for threats to the school. Indications are that the school went on lock down sometime after 10 am.

It’s believed that the lockdown has now been lifted and voting has resumed.

A message on the school’s website reads as follows:

“UPDATE: Gallaher Elementary School Open as a Polling Place
Tuesday, May 8, 11:09 a.m.
The heightened security status at Gallaher Elementary School was lifted at 11:09 a.m. The school is open as a Polling Place for the School Board Elections.”

We’re awaiting further details from authorities.
