Happening Now: Firefighters Respond To Multiple Fires Along Newark’s Amtrak Line

Newark – At 1:48 this afternoon firefighters from the Christiana Fire Company, along with crews from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder, Mill Creek and Cranston Heights Fire Companies responded to the railroad tracks between Route 273 and the Harmony Woods Neighborhood for reports of a large outside fire.

Upon arrival, crews from Christiana reported multiple fires along the tracks. Several area home and business owners reported fire near their locations.

Crews have been working their way down the track putting out small fires, likely caused by a passing train, using lines, brush trucks and Aetna’s Gator.

Crews are having a difficult time getting Amtrak to shut down the trains which is slowing the firefighters progress.

As of 3:54 crews reported that crews have left the tracks and the incident is under control.
