Police Charge Man In Newark Drive-By Shooting Incident

Newark – On Friday, July 6, New Castle County Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to the unit block of Hanna Drive, in the community of Piermont Woods for the report of multiple shots fired, according to police.

Officials said when they arrived at the scene the officers located numerous bullet holes in a car and a residence. The homeowners were home with their family, including young children, but no injuries were reported.

During the course of the investigation, Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit learned that witnesses observed a silver vehicle with duct tape, according to police.

With the public’s assistance, detectives from the New Castle County Police Special Investigations Squad were able to locate the vehicle yesterday, July 12. The vehicle was located in the community of Sparrow Run in the unit block of Plover Circle.

Officers stopped the vehicle on Route 40 as it exited Sparrow Run. Officials said additional evidence was discovered during the stope that implicated the driver, 24-year-old Nathaniel Harmon.

Nathaniel Harmon was taken into custody and transported to New Castle County Headquarters. He was charged with 1 count Felony Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Felony Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited, Felony Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Firearm), 6 counts of Felony Reckless Endangering 1st degree, two counts of misdemeanor Criminal Mischief and Failure to Use a Turn Signal.

Nathaniel Harmon was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $145,501.00 cash-only bail.

Earlier this week officials released surveillance images and asked for the public assistance in identifying the vehicle’s owner.

Newark – New Castle County Police are currently investigating a drive-by shooting incident that occurred on West Hanna drive yesterday.

Just before 6:00 on Friday evening, New Castle County Police responded to reports of shots fired in the normally quiet neighborhood of Piermont Woods, just off of Old Baltimore Pike. Upon arrival, officers found several shell casings in the roadway and a home riddled with bullet holes.

Police have not released information regarding the incident but witnesses at the scene reported that a suspect, who was wearing a ski mask, stopped his vehicle in front of the home and fired several rounds at the home before fleeing the scene.

A man who identified himself as the homeowner on our Facebook page said that three people were home during the incident but none of them were injured.
