Police Identify Woman Who Died After Being Struck By Car

The Dover Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Tuesday morning, according to M/Cpl. Mark Hoffman, Public Information Officer.

Hoffman said at approximately 10:52 AM, Rae Short (63), stepped onto Walker Road on the south side of the roadway, trying to cross to the north side, according to Hoffman. A Buick LeSabre was traveling eastbound on Walker Road at the same time and struck Short with the passenger side mirror, causing Short to fall to the ground. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, Short was alert but complaining of head pain and an abrasion to her knee. Short was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where it was learned she suffered a broken neck and later succumbed to her injuries.

Charges are not being sought against the driver of the Buick LeSabre, said Hoffman.
