Police: Man Cited For Multiple Offenses, Arrested After Crashing Into Police Car

UPDATE: After further investigation and reviewing surveillance coverage in the area, it was determined that the operator of a passenger vehicle disregarded the red light while traveling westbound on W. 2nd Street, striking the marked police unit that was proceeding with a green light, according to police.

The driver was cited for Disregarding a Red Light, Driving with a Suspended License, No Insurance, Operating an Unregistered Vehicle, and related charges. He was also arrested on an active arrest warrant regarding an unrelated matter.

Update

At approximately 11:00, a Wilmington Police vehicle was involved in a collision at W. 2nd and N. Adams Streets. The marked unit was traveling northbound on N. Adams Street when it was struck by a civilian vehicle that was traveling westbound on W. 2nd Street.

Two Wilmington officers were transported to Christiana ER with minor injuries. Two civilians in the other vehicle were transported to St. Francis ER also with minor injuries.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Traffic Division.

Breaking Report

Wilmington – Just before 11:00 this morning rescue crews from the Wilmington Fire Department responded to 2nd Street and Adams Street for reports of a vehicle accident with entrapment.

Early indications are that the accident involved a Wilmington Police patrol vehicle and another vehicle in the city.

A patient from the second vehicle, a man in his 60s, was transported to the trauma center.

Reports indicate that the police officer was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
