Reports: Two Injured At Lab Incident At UD Brown Lab Building

Newark – Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder and area HAZMAT teams have responded to UD Drake Hall for a HAZMAT incident.

Crews are reporting that two people may have been exposed to chromium oxide and have suffered lacerations from broken glass.

Initial reports indicate that the incident occurred in the Brown Lab building, which is connected to UD Drake Hall.

Both patients, along with rescue crews will remain inside the building until the decontamination team has set up outside.

Aetna Chief Andrew Bowerson has command.

Update: Crews are working to decontaminate the two patients.

Update: Crews are working to make access room 337 in Brown Lab building.

Update: Both patients have been removed from the building and moved to awaiting ambulances.

Update: Decontamination of some of the firefighters is underway.

Update: Two male students have been transported to the hospital.

Just before 3:00 pm Chief Bowerson brought the incident under control and turned the scene over to the University of Delaware Police Department.
