Breaking Report

Middletown – The Delaware State Police are attempting to locate James L. Bouchat, 29, of Smyrna, who is wanted in connection with a road rage incident, in which he pointed a handgun at another motorist, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 5:55 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2018, on SR 1 southbound, south of the Biddles Toll Plaza, Middletown. A 48-year-old Smyrna woman was traveling southbound on SR 1 and as she passed through the toll plaza she observed a tan pick-up truck directly behind her.

After traveling a short distance the female driver changed into the SR 1 southbound left lane at which time she observed the same pickup truck driving parallel to her on the left shoulder. The driver and sole occupant of the pickup, later identified as Bouchat rolled down the passenger side window, began screaming at the female and then pointed a handgun at her, according to Austin.

After displaying the firearm the pickup accelerated at a high rate of speed and was last seen southbound on SR 1. The female driver proceeded to a safe location before pulling over, at which time the police were notified. She was able to obtain the tag number of the pickup as it sped away, according to Austin.

The Delaware tag number came back to a 2003 tan, Ford F-150 pick-up truck, which was consistent with the vehicle description given by the female driver. Through further investigation Troopers were able to link the vehicle to Bouchat and positively identify him as the driver of the vehicle who displayed the handgun, said Austin.

An active arrest warrant is on file charging Bouchat with one count of Aggravated Menacing (felony).

Anyone with information regarding Bouchat’s whereabouts is asked to contact Delaware State Police Troop 9 at 302-378-5749 or by calling 911.
