Newport Gap Pike Accident Sends Three To Hospital, Closes Road

At approximately 8:30 this morning, New Castle County Paramedics, Mill Creek, Cranston Heights, and Belvedere Fire Companies were dispatched to the 3000 block of Newport Gap Pike in Wilmington for a motor vehicle crash involving multiple cars, according to Paramedic First Class Yvonne Russell.

Russell said Upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found 3 patients. The first patient, 42-year-old male, suffered injuries to his neck and back. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Christiana Hospital via Mill Creek Fire Company ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.

The second patient, 45-year-old male, was confined to his vehicle. Fire personnel utilized special equipment to remove the patient after 10 minutes. The patient suffered injuries to his face and head. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Christiana Hospital via Mill Creek Fire Company ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.

The third patient, 47-year-old female, suffered injuries to her back. The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital via Belvedere Fire Company ambulance accompanied by emergency medical technicians. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.

Newport Gap Pike was shut down in the area while crews worked to clear the scene.

Delaware State Police is investigating the crash.
