Police: Boy Struck By Car That Passed Stopped School Bus

At around 3:30 this afternoon, New Castle County Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Kingman Drive at Eaton Road in the community of Chalfonte, in reference to a pedestrian who was struck by a motor vehicle.

When the officers arrived at the scene they found a 14-year-old boy that had been struck by a vehicle after getting off a school bus. The officers learned that the bus was stopped with its lights on and the boy ran around the front of the bus and was struck by an oncoming 2010 Toyota Prius. Witnesses stated that the oncoming vehicle had stopped for the school bus but then continued on and struck the victim, according to M/Cpl. Michel Eckerd.

Eckerd said the boy was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for abrasions to his chest and leg areas. He was later released.

The 67-year-old driver of the Prius remained at the scene and was cited with Inattentive Driving and Passing a Stopped School Bus.
