Troopers Identify Driver Killed In Route 1 Accident On Friday

The Delaware State Police have identified Ricardo Lismore, 29, of Wilmington as the operator of a 2017 Kia Niro, who was killed in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer that occurred at approximately 1:24 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2018, on State Route 1 northbound just south of U.S. 40.

Bear – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer that occurred at approximately 1:24 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2018, on State Route 1 northbound, just south of U.S. 40 (Pulaski Hwy.).

The initial investigation has determined that a 2017 Kia Niro, operated by a 29-year-old Wilmington man was traveling SR 1 southbound in the northbound lanes of travel, in the area of the U.S. 40 interchange, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin. A 2010 Kenworth tractor-trailer, operated by a 34-year-old Harrington man was traveling SR 1 northbound in the left lane, south of the U.S. 40 interchange. The Kia collided tractor-trailer with the Kenworth, despite the efforts of the tractor-trailer driver, to brake and avoid the collision.

After impact, the rear of the Kia lifted into the air and came to a rest on top of the guardrail separating the SR 1 north and southbound lanes. The Kenworth came to rest in the left lane at the point of the collision.

The driver of the Kia who was not seat belted was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment on his behalf is undetermined at this time. Identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was seat belted and was not injured. Impairment on his behalf is not a factor.

SR 1 northbound was closed for approximately 6 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared. The southbound lanes were closed for approximately 4 hours.

Bear – The Delaware State Police are on scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer that occurred at approximately 1:24 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2018, on State Route 1 northbound, approximately 1 mile south of U.S. 40 (Pulaski Hwy.).

As a result, all lanes of SR 1, both northbound and southbound are closed. Northbound traffic is being diverted and forced to stay on U.S. 13 towards Tybouts Corner. Southbound traffic is being forced to exit on to U.S. 40.

At last check 6:57 am northbound lanes of Route 1 at Tybouts Corner are still closed. Southbound lanes are moving fine.
