Fire Department Evacuated Middletown Walmart On Sunday

Middletown – Firefighters from the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, along with surrounding fire companies responded to the Walmart located at 705 Middletown Warwick Road for a reported gas leak this afternoon.

Upon arrival, crews reported a strong odor of gas inside the building and ordered the store evacuated. Crews used meters to locate the source of the odor and shut off the gas.

At around 1:30 Command placed the incident under control and handed the building over to building maintenance.

An employee that answered the phone at the store said that employees were allowed back into the building but she was not clear if the store was going to reopen to customers.

The store has reopened.
