Troopers: Store Clerk Stabbed During Robbery In Bear

The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Newark area Dollar General store in which a clerk was stabbed, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 8:56 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the Dollar General located at 1154 Pulaski Highway in Bear. A male suspect loaded a shopping cart with assorted merchandise and exited the business without paying, said Austin.

An employee of the business confronted the suspect outside the business and attempted to recover the merchandise. A brief struggle ensued over possession of the shopping cart at which time the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the knee. The suspect then relinquished possession of the cart and fled on foot towards Pulaski Highway, without any property. The victim sustained a minor laceration to his knee and was treated at Christiana Hospital.

The suspect was described as a black male, 40-45 years of age, 5’9” tall, 230 pounds, wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, blue jeans, and a dark-colored hat.
