The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced repair work on the Chesapeake City Bridge will begin in late March 2019 and is expected to be completed by late June 2019.
The Army Corps awarded an $857,774 contract to Mountain Consulting Inc. of Delaware to replace the trough system on a total of nine piers throughout the bridge.
A series of lane closures will be implemented on the two-lane bridge that spans the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal at Chesapeake City, MD. Lane closures are expected from mid-April through mid-May 2019. Traffic will be controlled by flag personnel. Motorists can avoid delay by following the Alternate Route Plan.
Officials have suggested that drivers use Summit Bridge Road as an alternate route of travel.
The Chesapeake City Bridge was built in 1948 connecting the two sides of the city. The main span is 540 feet long and the overall length of the bridge is 3,954 feet.
