On August 19th, the Delaware Division of Forensic Science ruled the death in this incident a homicide by gunshot. The victim has been identified as Donte Hammond, 21, of Newark.
The second victim, a 20-year-old male from Wilmington, has been admitted to an area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. His injury is not considered life-threatening.

Original Story
On August 18, 2019, at 12:56 am, Newark Police responded to the Red Roof Inn at 1119 South College Avenue for multiple reports of shots fired, according to Lt Andrew Rubin.
Rubin said upon arriving at the scene, officers were directed to the second floor where they located a male suffering from gunshot wounds. Newark Police Officers initiated lifesaving measures, including CPR. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
While officers were attending to the male at the Red Roof Inn, Newark Police received a report that a male suffering from a gunshot wound arrived at an area hospital via private automobile. It was determined that this male had been shot while at the Red Roof Inn. This male’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, said Rubin.
There is no suspect information for release at this time. The identity of the deceased victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
