Border Protection Officers Hand Over Man Wanted On Rape Charges To Local Police

PHILADELPHIA – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Philadelphia man at Philadelphia International Airport Monday who was wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department on rape charges.

CBP officers detained Edgar Joel Vargas, 21, after Vargas arrived at Philadelphia International Airport on a flight from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Officers confirmed that Vargas was the wanted person and confirmed with Philadelphia Police that the warrant remained active. CBP turned Vargas over to Philadelphia Police officers.

“This arrest illustrates how Customs and Border Protection supports our law enforcement partners by intercepting wanted fugitives,” said Casey Durst, CBP’s Director of Field Operations in Baltimore. “As the nation’s border security agency, CBP remains vigilant and our officers are highly trained to guard our nation against dangerous people, deadly drugs, and other illicit products that could potentially harm our nation and our communities.”
