Smoke From Massive Fire In Smyrna Closed Route 1 On Friday

Smyrna – Just after 1:00 firefighters from the Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna, Leipsic Volunteer Fire Company, and Clayton Fire Company have responded to 1324 Paddock Road for a reported vehicle fire.

Early reports from the scene indicated that arriving crews found a combine harvester on fire with fire extending to nearby fields.

Smoke from the fire is completely blanketed all lanes of Route 1 causing its closure while crews worked to bring the fire under control.

Delaware State Police issued the following statement “Traffic Advisory-RT 1-southbound is being shut down at exit 119 and Northbound Is being shut down at exit 114 due to smoke conditions from a field fire in the area.” They later released a statement saying the roadway had been reopened.

While Route 1 waws closed all traffic is being diverted onto Route 13 through Smyrna.

The location of the fire was roughly half a mile west of the Vaughn Correctional Center.d
