Man Succumbs To Injuries Sustained In Sunday Crash

Bridgeville– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a serious crash that has turned fatal, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on October 13, 2019, at approximately 12:44 p.m., when a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway, east of Oak Road. A 2015 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup, was towing a trailer carrying an amusement park ride, traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway a distance behind the Jetta. The operator of the Jetta pulled his vehicle onto the eastbound shoulder of Seashore Highway in preparation to make a U-turn. After coming to a complete stop, the operator of the Jetta attempted the U-turn at the same time the pickup was approaching the location. As a result, the front of the pickup struck the left side of the Jetta within the eastbound travel lane of Seashore Highway.

A rear-seat passenger in the Jetta, a 25-year-old Joao D. Ferraz from Rockville, MD was properly restrained. He was initially transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and later transferred to the Christina Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on October 14, 2019.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Bridgeville– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a serious crash that occurred earlier this afternoon, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on October 13, 2019, at approximately 12:44 p.m., when a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway, east of Oak Road. A 2015 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup, was towing a trailer carrying an amusement park ride, traveling eastbound on Seashore Highway a distance behind the Jetta. The operator of the Jetta, a 26-year-old male from Arlington, VA was properly restrained. He was initially transported to the Sussex Bayhealth Hospital and later transferred to the Christiana Hospital with serious injuries.

A front seat passenger in the Jetta, a 25-year-old male from Staten Island, NY was properly restrained. He was initially transported to PRMC and later transferred to the Johns Hopkins Hospital with serious injuries.

A rear seat passenger in the Jetta, a 34-year-old female from Washington D.C. was not properly restrained. She was transported to the Sussex Bayhealth Hospital with serious injuries.

A middle rear seat passenger in the Jetta, a 23-year-old female from Munster, Indiana was properly restrained. She was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

A third rear seat passenger in the Jetta, a 25-year-old male from Rockville, MD was properly restrained. He was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and was in the process of being transferred to the Christiana Hospital at the time police released their statement.

The operator of the Dodge Ram, a 68-year-old male from Ocean City, MD was properly restrained and did not sustain any injuries.

Seashore Highway east of Oak Road was closed for approximately 3-hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.


Breaking Report


Bridgeville – Just before 1:00 on Sunday afternoon rescue crews from the Seaford, Bridgeville, Georgetown, and Millsboro along with Sussex County Medics and Lifenet were dispatched to 10740 Seashore Highway a traffic collision with injuries.

While en route crews learned that the crash involved four vehicles and that a Delaware State Trooper was reporting one patient was seriously injured. Crews also learned that one patient was trapped, however, it’s not clear if these are the same patient at this time.

A total of six patients were transported to area hospitals. Initial reports indicate that one patient was in critical condition, two patients were in serious condition and three additional patients suffered minor injuries.

Seashore Highway is currently closed at Oak Road.
