Just after 2:15, this afternoon firefighters with the Wilmington Fire Department have dispatched to the river in the area the E. Fourth Street for reports of a body in the water.

At around 2:30, crews on scene requested that a medic and the coroner’s office respond to the scene.

Wilmington Police (WPD) Spokesman David Karas said Police are conducting a death investigation after a body was recovered from the Christina River in the 900 block of East 4th Street

WPD is working in conjunction with the Delaware Division of Forensic Science/Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the identity of the victim.

Last week an SUV was found in the Brandywine River. In that case, police Karas said Wilmington Police, along with members of the Wilmington Fire Department Marine Units responded to the area and found the vehicle to be unoccupied.

The vehicle was recovered from the river and the owner was been notified, according to Karas.
