Three Dogs Shot By Police After Vicious Attack On Child In Dover

Dover Police say that officers responding to a dog attack in the area of Cannon Mills/Village of Westover and Nottingham Meadows have euthanized three dogs.

The officers were searching for the dogs after they attacked a child, according to police. Initial reports from the scene indicated the child was badly injured by several Pit Bulls. Rescue crews responding to the scene were told that the child was able to get inside a home and that the dogs were on the loose.

Police said shots were fired to euthanize the animals as they continued to be aggressive after the attack. Initially, police reported that two of the dogs remained at large and that one had been euthanized.

Police warned homeowners in the area to take their pets indoors as a precaution.

Just before 4:00 Police reported that all three dogs that attacked the child had been euthanized by police.

The dogs continued to be aggressive towards officers and animal control after the attack, said officials.

The child is was rushed to Kent General with multiple injuries, according to initial reports.

Police do not believe that there are any other threats of vicious dogs in the area.

Police remain in the area.
