One Dead, One Hospitalized After Early Morning Fire In Bowers Beach

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s fire near Bowers Beach, Delaware where one person was found deceased inside the trailer, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported short after 12:00 am, occurred in the unit block of GRM Drive off of Bowers Beach Road. The Bowers Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames engulfing the house trailer. One victim was found deceased inside by firefighters. Another resident was transported to Bayhealth Hospital Sussex Campus for smoke inhalation in good condition.

State fire investigators are on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. The Delaware Division of Forensic Science has removed the deceased victim from the scene and an autopsy is expected to occur sometime today.

Heavy fire damage is estimated at $50,000. This fire remains under investigation.
