Young Man Killed In Tragic Accident Sunday

Camden- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning.

On December 20, 2020, at approximately 12:17 a.m., a 1998 black Honda Accord passenger car was traveling eastbound on Willow Grove Road west of Steeles Ridge Road, approaching a moderate left curve. The Accord failed to negotiate the curve, traveled off the south edge of the roadway, and struck a tree with its left front fender and wheel. After impact, the vehicle rotates clockwise and continues eastbound, striking a second tree with its right rear fender and wheel. The Accord then continued eastbound, rolling over several times, ejecting the operator. The vehicle comes to rest right side up in a private driveway south of the roadway’s south edge.

The 23-year-old male operator of Clayton was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and admitted in critical condition. Sunday evening, he died from the injuries he sustained in the collision. Identification of the victim is pending notification to next of kin.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours to investigate.
