Crash That Closed Route 1 Sunday Night Sends Two To Hospital, One By Air

Just after 10:30 Sunday evening, rescue crews from the Odessa and Townsend Fire Companies responded to the area of Harris Road and Route 1 for a motor vehicle collision with injuries.

Fire arriving crews requested New Castle County Paramedics (NCCEMS) and Delaware State Police Aviation. Command then ordered Route 1 SB shut down. Several minutes after closing the road Command requested LifeNet to respond to the scene as well. Just after Trooper landed in the southbound lanes of Route 1, Command canceled the second helicopter.

Within minutes Command placed the incident under control with two patients being transported, one by air.

NCCEMS Assistant PIO Oliver Kocher said upon arrival medics arrival they found one patient, a 21-year-old woman with injuries to her chest and pelvic area, in care of Odessa Fire Company EMTs. That patient was treated on scene and transported to Christiana Hospital via ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in serious condition at the time of transport. Details surrounding the second patient that was transported by air are unknown at this time.

Route 1 SB was reopened at around 11:45 after the incident was cleared.

Delaware State Police is investigating the crash.
