Police: Smyrna Middle School Student Taken Into Custody, Loaded Firearm Recovered

A Smyrna Police Department school resource officer recovered a loaded firearm from the Smyrna Middle School Wednesday officials said today.

Police said on at approximately 12 p.m., a staff member notified the school resource officer that a 14-year-old student had turned over a firearm that was in his possession to a member of the school staff.

Investigation revealed that the student was suffering from a mental health crisis, according to police. The student was placed in protective custody for evaluation.

Charges against the student will be pending further investigation.
