Two Hospitalized After Thursday Morning House Fire In Newark

At approximately 7:10 a.m., New Castle County Paramedics (NCCEMS), Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company of Newark, Christiana Fire Company, Mill Creek Fire Company, Minquas Fire Company of Newport, Five Points Fire Company, and Delaware State Police Aviation were dispatched to the unit block of Augusta Drive in Newark for reports of a residential structure fire with subjects trapped, according to NCCEMS Assistant PIO Emily Mallon.

Mallon said upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found two patients. An approximately 75-year-old female was removed from the residence by firefighters. She was treated for burns and smoke inhalation. She was
transported to Christiana Hospital via Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics, in critical condition.

A 78-year-old male had self-extricated from the residence prior to fire department arrival. He was treated for smoke inhalation. He was transported to Christiana Hospital via Christiana Fire Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics, in serious
condition.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the scene.
