Video: House Fire Causes $600,000 Damage Near St. George’s Monday, Firefighter Injured

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating this evening’s fire near St. Georges that heavily damaged a house, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly after 7:30 pm, occurred in the 1300 block of Joseph Lane in the Highpointe at St. Georges development. The Delaware City Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the 2nd floor. One firefighter sustained a hand injury and was taken to the Christiana Hospital in stable condition.

As of last night, deputy fire marshals were on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. The home was heavily damaged, and both houses on each side sustained exposure damage. Total fire damage was estimated at $600,000. One occupant escaped from the burning house after being alerted by the smoke alarms. This fire remains under investigation.
