New Castle Schools On Lockdown Due To Police Action

Just before 3:30 this afternoon several parents notified us that William Penn, McCullough Middle School, Eisenberg, Castle Hills, Leach & the Colwyck Pre-K Center were on lockdown.

Our understanding at this time is that the schools were locked down due to a shooting investigation. The shooting does not appear to have occurred locally, according to a source in law enforcement.

William Penn issued the following statement:

“William Penn High : Out of an abundance of caution based on De State Police recommendation, “William Penn High School & McCullough Middle School were placed on lockdown shortly after 2 PM. Both schools had already dismissed students for the day, but some students and staff were still on campus for after school activities. All elementary schools except Wilbur & Southern have also been on a soft lockdown, where extra precautions are being taken. Children at Eisenberg, Castle Hills, Leach & the Colwyck Pre-K Center are being held for dismissal until the district gets clearance from DSP that the area is safe.”

We have learned that the all-clear has been given to William Penn.

This is a developing story.
