Wilmington Firefighters rescue family after three-year-old child falls into the water.
Officials said at 8:51 Tuesday evening Wilmington Firefighters on the B platoon were dispatched for three subjects trapped below grade on the riverbank of the Christina River.
A local Wilmington family was walking on the Riverwalk in the Riverfront area when their three-year-old daughter chased some baby ducks and fell down the embankment and into shallow water, officials said Wednesday.
The mother and father immediately jumped down to pull their daughter out of the water but could not get back up the embankment according to officials. Fire department units arrived on scene to find the family of three down along the bank of the river.
Battalion Chief Michael Harris, utilized Engine 1 and Ladder 2 to make contact with the family, provide an initial patient assessment, and assist the family back up the bank and onto the Riverwalk.
The mother and daughter were transported by ambulance to Wilmington Hospital. There were no reports of any serious injuries to the family.
