Family Narrowly Escapes Sunday Morning House Fire

Wilmington Fire units responded to 2927 N. Madison Street shortly after 5:00am for a report of house on fire.

On arrival, Squad 4 officer reported a two-story semi-detached single family dwelling fully involved and began fire suppression efforts. Command upgraded the alarm calling all city apparatus to the scene. Reports from family members who escaped the fire told crews there were missing family members presumably still inside.

Fire crews were able to gain access from the rear of the structure and complete searches for the missing family members while simultaneously extinguishing fire throughout the home. Three hand lines were placed in service and crews were able to extinguish the fire and complete a primary and secondary search for the missing residents with negative results.

The missing family members were located outside of the home and were evaluated by St. Francis EMS, two minors were transported to A.I. DuPont Hospital for evaluation.

The fire was placed under control with no injuries to fire department personnel. Wilmington Fire Marshals are investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
