Police: 20-Year-Old Facing Murder Charge In 2020 Shooting

A Wilmington Police investigation has resulted in an arrest in connection with a July 2020 murder police said Tuesday.

Officials said on July 27, 2020, at approximately 4:51 p.m., police responded to the area of 12th and Walnut Streets in response to a shooting that had occurred. The victim, 17-year-old Kavai Martin, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Martin died in February, and further investigation determined his death was a result of injuries sustained in the shooting incident according to police.

The case was assigned to Detective Brandon Mosley of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Mosley identified 20-year-old Nehemiah Jackson as a suspect according to police.

On October 10, Detective Mosley presented the case to the New Castle County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment on the following charges:
Murder (1st Degree)
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
Jackson was taken into custody without incident later that day.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,080,000 cash-only bail.
