Just before 9:00, Friday morning rescue crews responded to Dupont Parkway (US 13) at Smyrna Landing Road for reports of a motor vehicle accident with the driver trapped.
While en route crews learned that the patient was removed from the vehicle and life-saving measures were being performed.
Crews arriving on scene continued efforts to save the patient, however, the patient succumbed to their injuries according to initial reports from the scene.
Delaware State Police said as a result of the accident, US 13 northbound was closed for an extended period.
