Woman, 3-Year-Old Injured In Wilton House Fire

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office has determined that this afternoon’s fire in New Castle that injured two people was accidental according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly before 12:30 pm, occurred in the 1100 block of Old Forge Road in the Meadows of Wilton development. The Christiana Fire Company arrived on the scene with smoke pouring from the house. Firefighters removed two of the occupants from the house.

A 3-year-old male was transported in stable condition to the Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington. A 24-year-old female was taken to the Christiana Hospital emergency room in Newark also in stable condition.

Both victims were suffering from smoke inhalation. Deputy fire marshals responded to the scene to conduct the fire investigation. The fire originated inside the kitchen and was caused by cooking. Fire damage was estimated at $15,000.
