Police: Teen Charged In Online Threats To Newark High School

Newark Police have arrested a teen for making threats against Newark High School, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said on March 14, 2023, Newark Police were advised of a threat of violence to occur at Newark High School.  Newark Police Department school resource officers and detectives immediately began to investigate the threat.  The investigation determined that a 15-year-old Newark juvenile engaged in a text message and social media interaction with another juvenile.  During that interaction, the 15-year-old juvenile made threats of violence to occur at Newark High School at a later date said Rubin.

An arrest warrant was obtained and the 15-year-old juvenile was taken into custody at their residence that same day.  In addition, a search warrant was executed at the residence.

The juvenile was transported to Newark Police headquarters where they were charged with one count of felony terroristic threatening.  The juvenile appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was released to a family member pending a future court date.

The Newark Police Department is aware of recent rumors on social media related to possible violence to occur at Newark High School.  The Newark Police Department has investigated the recent rumors and has not developed any information as to a new threat of violence at the school said Rubinl.  The latest social media posts are believed to be related to the prior threat for which an arrest was made added Rubin.
