Friday Morning Crash Seriously Injures Young Man

Delaware State Police are investigating a serious Friday morning crash that occurred at Ruthar Drive and Ogletown Bypass in Newark.

Spokeswoman S/Sergeant Abigail Haas said at approximately 2:45 a.m., New Castle County Paramedics were requested to respond to reports of a single-vehicle crash with one trapped. Upon arrival of the paramedics, they found the sedan that had first struck a guardrail and then the opposing jersey barrier.

Haas said the 26-year-old male driver was trapped inside his car and required the assistance of firefighters from the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company of Newark. Crews were able to free the man in about ten minutes.

He was treated by the paramedics for extremity injuries and then transported to the Christiana Hospital in Stanton in serious condition.

Responders included the Delaware State Police, New Castle County EMS (Paramedics), and the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company of Newark.

The intersection at Ruthar Drive and Ogletown Bypass had lane restrictions while the investigation and accident were cleared
