Investigators Say Smyrna House Fire Was Arson

The fire, which damaged a single home on the 200 block of East Mount Vernon Street, resulted in an estimated $100,000 in heavy fire damage.

Firefighters with the Citizens’ Hose Company along with investigators were called to the scene shortly before 10 pm where they found an active fire inside the unoccupied home. Investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set according to Chionchio.

A criminal investigation is now underway by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office in order to determine the circumstances that caused the fire and to apprehend the responsible individual or individuals.
