State Police Investigating Fatal Accident

The Delaware State Police are currently conducting an investigation into a single-car collision that occurred in Harrington on Friday evening.

Officials said at around 6:16 p.m., a black 2007 Chevrolet HHR was westbound on Vernon Road, just to the west of Prospect Church Road. For reasons that are yet to be determined, the HHR departed from the north (right) side of the road and continued in a westerly direction for a brief distance. Subsequently, it collided with a small rock wall situated adjacent to a tax ditch. The impact caused the HHR to rotate before coming to a stop upright at the bottom of the tax ditch.

The driver of the HHR, a 77-year-old Denton, Maryland man was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The identity of the driver is being withheld until his family and relatives can be notified.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively engaged in the investigation of this incident. They are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward with any relevant information. Senior Corporal R. Albert can be contacted at 302-703-3266 for those who can provide details about the event.
