Delaware Dems Push Permit-To-Purchase Gun Law

The Delaware House of Representatives Appropriations Committee recently moved forward with Senate Bill 2, a proposed legislation concerning handgun purchases in the state. If passed into law Delaware residents would be required to complete a certified training course within a five-year period prior to purchasing a handgun.

The development of this bill in Delaware follows Maryland’s mandatory training and license requirements law passed in 2016, which was struck down by a Federal Appeals court.

Controversy surrounds the process by which the bill was advanced. Republican members of the House Appropriations Committee have expressed concerns about the lack of notification regarding the decision to release bills from the committee.
