Friday Morning House Fire Keeps Firefighters Busy In Wilmington

Officials are investigating a Friday morning house fire in Wilmington.

Captain Matthew Marsella said at 7:55, Friday morning the Wilmington Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 900 block of Kirkwood Street.

Upon arrival, Engine 2, the first responding unit, initiated suppression efforts on a two-story, middle-of-the-row, vacant single-family dwelling. The fire was located at the rear of the structure and had extended to the second floor.

The fire department conducted searches of both the affected building and adjacent structures. These searches yielded no occupants, resulting in no civilian or firefighter injuries. The fire was successfully contained to the single residence and declared under control within 30 minutes.

The incident required a coordinated response from approximately 36 personnel across various agencies. The units involved in this operation included Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Squad 4, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Battalion-1, Battalion-2, Deputy 3, FM-18, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Paramedics, License and Inspection, Wilmington Police, and Delmarva Power.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Wilmington Fire Marshals.
