Crash Closes Route 1 NB In Townsend

Just after 9:20 Wednesday morning a traffic collision occurred at the Route 1 Northbound and Dupont Parkway underpass near Blackbird Creek in Townsend, causing the northbound lanes to be closed.

Crews from Townsend and Smyrna Fire Companies, along with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), responded to the scene.

Initial reports indicate that two patients were transported from the scene by ambulance. The specifics of their injuries remain unknown at this time.

In addition to the collision, there is a spill at the crash sight, prompting authorities to close the northbound lane of Route 1 at Blackbird Creek near Helen’s Sausage House. The closure is expected to remain in place until the spill is fully contained and the area is deemed safe for travel.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
